Rationale

Sufficient open space increases opportunities for physical activity and social engagement. 

Strategy Requirements

Dedicate a minimum of 1.5 acres of open space per 1,000 occupants within the project boundary.

Qualifying open spaces include:

• recreation areas
• walking trails
• bike paths
• gardens
• plazas
• wetlands
• greenways
• playgrounds

Note: Roads, rooftops, and parking lots do not qualify as open spaces.

Alternative Compliance

The project is located within 1/2 mile or 800 meters walking distance from a minimum of 1.5 acres of open space per 1,000 residents

Design Certification

Submit the following:

1. Annotated map(s) or plan(s) showing one of the following:
   1. the size of the planned or existing open space(s)
   2. the distance between the planned or existing open space(s) and the project boundary (for Alternative Compliance only)
2. A calculation demonstrating that there will be a minimum of 1.5 acres of open space per 1,000 residential occupants

Built Certification

Submit the following:

1. Annotated map(s) or plan(s) showing one of the following:
   1. the size of the open space(s) located
   2. the distance between open space(s) and the project boundary (for Alternative Compliance only)
2. A calculation demonstrating that there is a minimum of 1.5 acres of open space per 1,000 residential occupants
