Rationale

Bike lanes and pathways improve safety and overall travel experience, and also encourage cycling for transportation and recreation, contributing to reduced congestion and air pollution. 

Strategy Requirements

Include bicycle lanes or pathways that:

1. are separated from traffic and marked as designated bicycle lanes through color coding or material selection
2. are a minimum of 1 mile or 1600 meters long in one direction
3. if provided on-site, meet a minimum of 2 of the following:
   1. connect to an off-site network of bicycle lanes or pathways
   2. connect the main project entrances to a minimum of one other function on-site 
   3. traverse the project
4. if provided off-site, are directly connected to the project

Design Certification

Submit design drawings detailing the following:

1. The existing or planned location of the bicycle lane(s) or pathway(s)
2. The minimum length of the existing or planned bicycle lane(s) or pathway(s)
3. Other off-site existing or planned bicycle lanes or pathways, if available
4. The design of the bicycle lane(s) or pathway(s)

Built Certification

Submit the following:

1. An annotated map detailing the following:
   1. the location of the bicycle lane(s) or pathway(s)
   2. the minimum length of the bicycle lane(s) or pathway(s)
   3. other off-site bicycle lanes or pathways, if available
2. A minimum of 3 annotated photographs showing the qualifying bike lane(s) or pathway(s)
