Restorative gardens provide occupants with an opportunity to connect with nature and engage in passive recreation outdoors.
Strategy Requirements
Include an outdoor restorative garden that:
-
- is free of charge to all regular occupants
- is located within 1/2 mile or 800 meters walking distance of all regularly occupied buildings
- includes natural elements
- includes a minimum of one of the following amenities:
- seating
- water feature
- shelter from the elements
- walking path
- is shielded from congested roadways, pedestrian corridors, and dense development by landscaping elements
Regularly occupied buildings are buildings where occupants live or work, including:
- residential buildings
- commercial buildings
- industrial buildings
- retail buildings
Design Certification
Submit all of the following:
- An official or draft statement confirming that the outdoor restorative garden will be free of charge to all regular occupants
- Annotated plan(s) or map(s) detailing the existing or planned location of all of the following:
- the qualifying restorative garden
- all regularly occupied buildings
- the distance between all regularly occupied buildings and the qualifying restorative garden
- Design drawing(s) or a minimum of 3 annotated photographs detailing the following:
- a minimum of one qualifying amenity
- the restorative element(s)
- the landscaping element(s)
Built Certification
Submit all of the following:
- An official or draft statement confirming that the outdoor restorative garden will be free of charge to all regular occupants
- Annotated plan(s) or map(s) detailing the location of all of the following:
- the qualifying restorative garden
- all regularly occupied buildings
- the distance between all regularly occupied buildings and the qualifying restorative garden
- A minimum of 3 annotated photographs detailing the following:
- the qualifying amenity
- the restorative element(s)
- the landscaping element(s)
