Rationale
Practices that mitigate noise reduce exposure to environmental noise pollution, supporting improved sleep.
Strategy Requirements
Mitigate noise pollution within open spaces within the project boundary by:
- identifying all significant noise sources within 1/2 mile or 800 meters of the project boundary. Significant noise sources include:
- interstates, highways, and principal arterial roads with 6 or more travel lanes
- heavy industrial/agricultural use
- heavy rail and at-grade/elevated rail transit
- airport facilities
- implementing a minimum of 2 of the following practices to alleviate excess noise:
- siting open spaces and outdoor amenities away from significant noise sources
- siting buildings to buffer open space from noise sources
- installing physical barriers to redirect noise to unpopulated areas
- using dense landscaping and natural material strategically placed at noise sources and outdoor amenities to absorb excess noise
- grading and mounding land to redirect and absorb noise
- restricting access for heavy vehicles in residential areas
Not applicable
Confirm that there are no significant noise sources within 1/2 a mile or 800 meters of the project boundary
Design Certification
Submit annotated map(s) showing the following:
- All anticipated noise sources within the project.
- The planned qualifying noise mitigation practice(s) that will be implemented.
OR
Submit an official or draft statement confirming that industrial and/or commercial-related noise sources will not be within or adjacent to the project boundary (for Not Applicable only).
Built Certification
Submit annotated map(s) showing the following:
- All identified noise sources within the project.
- The qualifying noise mitigation practice(s) implemented.
OR
Submit an official statement confirming that industrial and/or commercial-related noise sources are not within or adjacent to the project boundary (for Not Applicable only).
