Rationale

Maximizing visibility into open spaces supports perceptions of safety and promote use of outdoor spaces. 

Strategy Requirements

Include optimal visibility and sightlines into open spaces by implemented one of the following approaches in each open space:

• remove all walls, fencing, and other physical barriers to open space
• restrict the height of walls, fencing, bollards, concrete barriers, and other physical barriers to a maximum of 4 feet or 1.2 meters

Design Certification

Submit all of the following:

1. Annotated map(s) or plan(s) identifying the location of all existing or planned open spaces within the project boundary
2. Design drawings demonstrating the use of one qualifying design approach

Built Certification

Submit all of the following:

1. Annotated map(s) or plan(s) identifying the location of all existing or planned open spaces within the project boundary
2. A minimum of 3 annotated photographs of each open space demonstrating implementation of one qualifying design approach
