Buildings with a healthy building certification support access to a health-promoting environment, contributing to an enhanced quality of life for occupants.
Strategy Requirements
Certify a minimum of 80% of the total qualifying built square footage within the project boundary by an accredited certification system that meets the following:
- Demonstrates impact on a minimum of 5 of the following:
- neighboring community health
- occupant physical activity
- occupant mental health
- occupant safety
- occupant access to healthy food
- social equity
- sustainability practices
- Utilizes a third-party certifier
Qualifying built square footage is the square footage of all built up spaces that are occupied by regular occupants including:
- commercial buildings
- residential buildings
- retail spaces or buildings
Note: Buildings that do not include regular occupants may be excluded from the calculation of qualifying built square footage for this strategy.
Design Certification
Submit all of the following:
- Annotated plan(s) identifying the following:
- A calculation of the qualifying built square footage within the project boundary that plan to receive an accredited certification
- A calculation of all qualifying built square footage within the project boundary
- An official or draft statement detailing how the healthy building certification system meets the following:
- the qualifying categories
- utilizes a third-party certifier
Built Certification
Submit all of the following:
- Annotated plan(s) identifying the following:
- A calculation of the qualifying built square footage within the project boundary that has received an accredited certification
- A calculation of all qualifying built square footage within the project boundary
- An official statement detailing how the healthy building certification system meets the following:
- the qualifying categories
- utilizes a third-party certifier
- The qualifying accredited certification received
