A Community Engagement Process guiding neighborhood design and development empowers stakeholders and supports community resilience.
Strategy Requirements
Establish and implement a Community Engagement Process for all construction, major renovations, or public open space improvement projects that:
- Is developed through a collaboration between stakeholder groups:
- for new developments, identifies a minimum of three community stakeholder groups located near the project boundary
- for existing developments, identifies a minimum of two stakeholders groups located within the project boundary an done located near the project boundary
- Elicits input from the identified stakeholders in all of the following areas:
- identifying local priorities
- developing community design, including public space(s), streetscapes, and pending development project(s)
- identifying events and programming within public space(s)
- Utilizes a minimum of two forums for communication, including:
- city/public meetings
- community meeting
- neighborhood events and/or canvassing
- online platforms (surveys, websites)
- other professional planning methods
- Engages with the selected stakeholders through a minimum of two key phases of the design/development, including:
- conceptual design
- schematic design
- design development
- construction
- bidding
- post-occupancy
- Publicizes Community Engagement Process results with relevant stakeholders prior to construction
Design Certification
Submit the following:
- The official or draft qualifying Community Engagement Process
- An official statement confirming the following:
- the identified stakeholders
- that the stakeholders will be engaged during a minimum of two key phases of design/development
- how the results will be shared with relevant stakeholders prior to construction
Built Certification
Submit the following:
- The qualifying Community Engagement Process
- An official statement confirming the following:
- the identified stakeholders
- that the stakeholders will be engaged during a minimum of two key phases of design/development
- how the results will be shared with relevant stakeholders prior to construction
