501.1 - Lot.
Lot is selected in accordance with Option 1 or Option 2.
Option 1: A lot is selected within a site certified to this Standard or equivalent. (15 points)
Required Documentation
Certificate of Certification for land development. Verify with Home Innovation that site attained NGBS Green certification or verify development is certified by an equivalent program.
Option 2: A lot is selected to minimize environmental impact by one or more of the following:
- An infill lot is selected. (10 points)

Required Documentation: Evidence that land adjacent to lot was previously developed for at least 5 years previously

- A lot is selected that is a greyfield. (10 points)
- Required Documentation: Evidence that lot itself was previously developed
- An EPA-recognized brownfield lot is selected. (15 points)
- Required Documentation: Evidence that lot is a brownfield. Brownfields must be recognized by EPA to earn points.
501.2 Multi-Modal Transportation
A range of multi-modal transportation choices are promoted by one or more of the following:
- A lot is selected within one-half mile (805 m) of pedestrian access to a mass transit system. (6 points)
- Required Documentation: Map showing location of transportation relative to the building on the lot.

A lot is selected within five miles (8,046 m) of a mass transit station with provisions for parking. (3 points)

Required Documentation: Map showing distance is based driving from the lot and not from the community entrance.

- Walkways, street crossings, and entrances designed to promote pedestrian activity are provided. New buildings are connected to existing sidewalks and areas of development. (5 points)
- Required Documentation: Review of site plan. Infrastructure in the community should be considered applicable to this practice.
- A lot is selected within one-half mile (805 m) of six or more community resources. No more than two each of the following use category can be counted toward the total: Recreation, Retail, Civic, and Services. Examples of resources in each category include, but are not limited to the following (4 points):
- Recreation: recreational facilities (i.e. pools, tennis courts, basketball courts, etc.) and parks
- Retail: grocery store, restaurant, retail store
- Civic: post office, place of worship, community center
- Services: bank, daycare center, school, medical/dental office, laundromat/dry cleaners

- OR, A lot is selected within a census block group that, compared to its region, has above-average neighborhood walkability using an index within the EPA’s Smart Location Database:
- Lot's walkability is within the top quartile for the region. (5 points)
- Lot's walkability is within the second quartile for the region. (4 points)

Bicycle use is promoted by building on a lot located within a community that has rights-of-way specifically dedicated to bicycle use in the form of paved paths or bicycle lanes, or on an infill lot located within 1/2 mile of a bicycle lane designated by the jurisdiction. (5 points)
- Required Documentation: Community site plan or official local jurisdiction bike lane map.
- Dedicated bicycle parking and racks are indicated on the site plan and constructed for mixed-use and multifamily buildings:
- Minimum of 1 bicycle space per 3 residential units (2 points)
- Minimum of 1 bicycle space per 2 residential units (4 points)
- Minimum of 1 bicycle space per 1 residential unit (6 points)
- Bicycle enclosed storage is provided or parking spaces are covered or otherwise protected from the elements. (2 points per unit marker)
- Required Documentation: Site plan showing location of designated bicycle parking and racks.
- Select a lot in a community where there is access to shared vehicle usage such as carpool drop-off areas, car-share services, and shuttle services to mass transit. (5 points)
- Enter name of car sharing program: __________________
- Required Documentation: Site plan showing location of car-share services and/or shuttle and possibly contracts or commitment from car sharing companies.
- Lot is within 0.5 mile walking distance of where a bike sharing program is provided. (5 points)

- Required Documentation: Map that shows bike sharing docks are within ½ mile from site OR confirmation that dockless bikes are available to residents. If the latter, please confirm that the dockless bikes are not merely a pilot that might not be continued in the future. Access to scooters are an acceptable alternative to bike sharing.
