Radon is a colorless, odorless, naturally occurring, radioactive gas produced by radium decay that is believed to cause lung cancer. The most common source of indoor radon is the uranium in the soil or rock upon which facilities are built. Areas considered high-risk in the US are Alabama, Santa Barbara, Colorado, southern Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, northern New Jersey, southern New York, North Dakota, mid Ohio, Eastern Pennsylvania, southern Rhode Island, eastern South Dakota, eastern Utah, Virginia and Wyoming.
