To ensure organic materials are properly separated from the waste stream to promote the beneficial use of the material and minimize contamination of other materials.

REQUIREMENTS

Create process for the collection of source separated compostables. Separate collection should take place at front and back of house food service operations, break areas, and all other locations where organics are generated. Compostable material must remain separate from other materials at all times, including point of collection from service provider.

POTENTIAL STRATEGIES

Identify areas where organics are generated and provide collection bins that are labeled for organics. Further detail and photographs on bins regarding items that are accepted and prohibited will help to minimize or eliminate contamination. Train employees on proper sorting.
